What is 70S Ribosome and 80S Ribosome?
I would avoid to write the extra information to keep it simple to understand. So, 70S Ribosome are the type of ribosome with the sedimentation coefficient of 70S Svedberg.
Here, "S" represent Svedberg. Svedberg is the unit for sedimentation rate.
Similarly, 80S Ribosome is the another type of ribosome with sedimentation coefficient of 80S Svedberg.
The main difference between 70S Ribosome and 80S Ribosome is their Sedimentation coefficient. But many more points can be added while distinguishing between them.
For Example:
70S Ribosome | 80S Ribosome | |
---|---|---|
1 | They are mainly found in Prokaryotic Cells. | They are mainly found in Eukaryotic Cells. |
2 | They have two subunit namely, 50S and 30S Subunit. | They have two subunit namely, 60S and 40S Subunit. |
3 | They are comparatively smaller than 80S Ribosome. | They are comparatively larger than 70S Ribosome. |
4 | They have 3 rRNA molecule namely, 5S RNA, 23S RNA and 16S RNA | They have 4 rRNA molecule namely, 5S RNA, 5.8S RNA, 28S RNA and 18S RNA |
5 | Large Subunit is made up of two rRNA molecule; 5S RNA and 23S RNA. | Large Subunit is made up three rRNA molecule; 5S RNA, 5.8S rRNA and 28S RNA. |
6 | They mostly float freely in cytoplasm. | They may be attached to cell organelle or float freely in cytoplasm. |
We can still add more points as we go more deep in this particular topic.
